Ok, so we're a little overdue...

...but that seems to be the theme here. By now, you all know that little G5 (George Steiner Haight IV) came into this great world on February 1st. And, I can honestly say that I had drafted up this clever little blog entry while breastfeeding in the middle of the 2nd night we were home...but that's as far as we got. As disappointing as it is to create a blog dedicated to the gestation of our little one only to completely miss posting the finale, it seems it's not so easy finding time and two hands to type with.

So here we are. G5 is officially 5 1/2 weeks old and weighing in at a healthy 12+ pounds (his last official weight of 11 lbs 14 oz was taken on March 1st and we are sure he has crossed the 12-pound threshold). However, although he has jumped right into his 3-6-month-old clothes and diapers, he is still a newborn at heart. He likes to lay down and play on his playmat and, thanks to his size, can hit the rattling toys even if it's not completely intentional. His most calming place seems to be the changing table. It's surrounded with bold colors to keep his interest. And like every man, he likes to hang out there for 20 minutes every morning to make his daily deposit. We are just starting to see consistent smiles (again, most often occuring on his changing table), and he is able to pick up my and G4's voices from across the room. We have now heard him laugh twice, but only in his sleep - still just as cute and exciting!

As for parenthood, well, we are still figuring that out. Every now and then I am reminded that it will likely be years before I can sleep through the night - even if G5 can. Our days are filled with a mix of feeding, changing diapers, laundry, and really bad television (which is actually a good thing). We've tried to get outside anytime it's not raining and the temps hit 40, but it's been a long winter for all of us. Fortunately, things seem to be thawing now. G5 and I try to hit a mom and baby group at least once a week, and last week we had our first big family party with lots of cousins and even Karaoke!!!

So we are all settling into each other - even Auger and Bayleigh are welcoming their newest pack member. And as much work and as never-ending as it seems, those little squeaks and smiles will melt your heart every time. So, we are happy to finally announce to all of our blog followers:

Welcome George Steiner Haight IV! We love you! xxxooo
